Faith Integration and the Outrageous Ethic of Sex Only in Male-Female Marriage: Towards an Anthropology of Sex and Marriage for the Christian Community

This article identifies two competing paradigms of sexual ethics in the student handbooks and codes conduct at American residential colleges universities. Sexual misconduct is either defined exclusively terms consent violation or, regardless consent, as any sex outside male-female marriage—the latter found solely faith communities.Based on survey results, this examines faculty convictions related to above religiously affiliated It finds strong support for both paradigms. Among who reject “sex only marriage” paradigm, many consider paradigm “outrageous” (irrational, extremist, motivated by malice, productive human harm)—meriting government sanctions.However, suggests that most repudiated portion Christian marital ethic, its cross-sex nature, turns out be mainstream marriage cultures around world—as studied anthropologists.
